Robert Allen Mewborn, 79, Seven Springs, peacefully passed away Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014.
Robert was born Nov. 17, 1935, in Lenoir County to the late Robert Alton Mewborn and Katie Herring Mewborn.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Peterson Mewborn, and a sister, Darlene Mewborn.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and later retired from civil service where he worked as an internal auditor.
Robert had a strong faith in Jesus and was a member of Jackson Heights Free Will Baptist Church.
A true southern gentleman and meticulous in all endeavors, Robert enjoyed traveling and gardening.
His life set an example for his children and grandchildren that will lead them all their lives.
A service to celebrate and honor Robert's life will be held Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home with the Rev. Ashley Summerlin officiating.
Interment will follow at Daly's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Robert had a great love for his family and is survived by two sons, Robert "Robby" Allen Mewborn Jr. and wife, Jan, and Christopher Lamar Mewborn and his companion, Tonya; two grandchildren, Joshua Hunter Mewborn and Katie Marie Mewborn; sister, Evelyn Hardy; three stepchildren, Stephanie Kornegay, Russ Kornegay and wife, Susie, and Kevin Kornegay and wife, Cary; five step-grandchildren, George Kornegay, McKinsey Kornegay, Charlotte Kornegay, Parker Kornegay and Annabel Kornegay; along with a special cousin, Christine Detwiler.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home.
