VELMA HINES EDWARDS

Velma Hines Edwards, 90, resident of the Sterling House, Goldsboro, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Velma was born in Wayne County Oct. 18, 1923, to the late Samuel Carl Hines and Agnes Hollowell Hines.
She graduated from Rosewood High School in 1940, and was married to the late Herbert Molton Edwards.
Velma was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, and was a former member of Salem United Methodist Church.
Velma cherished the God given beauty of our land, and enjoyed traveling the 50 states and abroad with her husband and others, all while making good friendships along the way. She shared her love of travel and generosity through family trips.
Babies were special to her, and she was overjoyed with the arrival of each and every one of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A service celebrating Velma's life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at St. Luke United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Adam Seate officiating.
The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.
Interment will be in Wayne Memorial Park.
Velma is survived by her sons, H. Jack Edwards and wife, Betsy, of Goldsboro, C. Randall Edwards and wife, Dorann, of Thomasville and Liston Gerald "Jerry" Edwards and wife, Marie, of Goldsboro; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Charles Parrott; sister, Melbadyne Poglayen; and brothers, Dexton M. Hines, Liston L. Hines and Arcie L. Hines.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 1608 E. Pine St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, or Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
