JOSEPH F. BARFIELD
FAYETTEVILLE -- Master Sergeant Joseph Franklin Barfield, (Retired) of 532 B Umberland St., died Saturday at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Born in Wayne Co. on September 9, 1933, he is the son of the late Walter Barfield Sr. and Katie Kornegay Barfield.
Funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Luke Church of Christ Disciples of Christ, 636 Waller Rd., Mount Olive, with the Rev. Dr. L.D. Melvin officiating.
He is survived by his wife, Hedwig Schlotterbeck Barfield of the home; three children, Sandra Barfield of Raeford, Richard (Jennifer) Barfield of Raleigh, and Barbara Hannah of Deland, Fl.; one sister, Lela (Joe) King of Faison and brother, Thomas (Everlena) Barfield Sr. of Dudley.
A time of viewing and reflection will be held today from 5-7 p.m. at Garris Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will gather on Thursday at 7221 Suttontown Rd. Faison at 1 p.m. in preparation for the funeral procession.
