LESLIE L. ANDERSON

Leslie L. Anderson, 91, longtime Mount Olive resident, passed away early Friday morning, Feb. 28, while a patient at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

After graduation from high school in 1940, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942, and served in Florida, New Jersey, Rhode Island and in the Pacific Theater of World War II aboard the USS Princeton aircraft carrier.

He married Hazel Parker in 1946, and soon after his military discharge, he found employment with Goldsboro Tin Shop, which was the beginning of what was to become a lifelong career.

He and a brother operated their own business for a short time, after which they split apart, each one founding his own enterprise.

Mr. Les, as he was known locally, founded in 1953 Anderson Roofing and Sheet Metal Works in Mount Olive, which evolved into being Anderson Heating and Cooling as it operated today under the leadership of his son and grandsons.

Mr. Les was a member of Northeast Original Free Will Baptist Church, where he held a long and loyal membership of faithful service. Being a member of Gideons International was one of his earnest endeavors. Too, Mr. Anderson had been a member of the Peanut Crew, an outreach of First Methodist Church in Mount Olive.

From 1963, he and his wife had been residents of Crest Drive in Mount Olive, and upon her passing in 2011, he relocated to the outskirts of Faison to be near and with his son and family.

Funeral services will be Sunday, March 2, at 2 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home chapel, officiated by the Rev. Richard Cuddington, with visitation following the service, after which burial will take place in Maplewood Cemetery.

Friends and family are also being received at the Doug Anderson residence at 138 Bill Clifton Road, Faison, N.C.

Mr. Anderson is survived by a loving and supportive family, which includes daughter, Cynthia Marie "Cindy" Anderson Creech and husband, Timothy, of Sleepy Creek village, Dudley; son, Douglas Lee "Doug" Anderson and wife, Jean Lee Anderson, of Faison; four grandchildren, Amanda Creech Daniels and husband, Leslie, and Elizabeth Creech Daughtry and husband, Will, all of Goldsboro, and John Thomas Anderson and wife, Carla, and Casey Lee Anderson and wife, Amanda, all of Faison; seven great-grandchildren, Dylan and Noah Daniels, Landon and Allie Gray Daughtry, Jake Thomas, Parker and Samuel Anderson; and a brother, Woodrow J. Anderson of Goldsboro.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Les was preceded in death by a brother, William S. "Bill" Anderson, and parents, Jesse Thomas and Janie Hines Anderson.
