FRANCES HODGES SMITH

Frances Hodges Smith was born Aug. 6, 1933, and departed this earthly life Feb. 19, 2014.

Frances attended the public schools of Duplin County, and graduated first in her class from Douglass High School in 1951. She went on to attend Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C., where she majored in English and minored in French.

Frances transitioned peacefully surrounded by her family and friends Feb. 19, 2014.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Smith Royal and a very special son-in- law, Michael Anthony Royal of Four Oaks, N.C.; two grandchildren, Rejess Franchon Marshall of Atlanta, Ga., and Rosilyn Ricole Smith of Goldsboro, N.C.; and a great-granddaughter, Devaeh D'Shonti DeWitt.

Frances leaves behind a brother, Gordon Charles Hodges (Carrie) of Baltimore, Md.; a sister-in-law, Delores Hodges of Warsaw, N.C.; godchildren, Rohn, Katrice and Tammy Bowden of Greensboro, N.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Also left to cherish sister friend memories are Hattie Hughes, Helen Johnson, Alice Royal, Angelene Bowden and Elnora Gardner.

Services will be held Sunday at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Goldsboro, with family visitation from 2 to 3 p.m., with a Delta Sigma Theta, Omega Omega, service from 3 to 3:30 p.m., and a celebration of life and homegoing service at 3:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Goldsboro.
