Hugh Norman Potts Jr., 80, passed away Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family.

Hugh was born in Wilson County July 4, 1933, to the late Hugh Norman Potts Sr. and Mary Dora Leona Lamb Potts. He was married to the late Bessie Parrish Potts.

Hugh worked as a truck driver for Wooten Oil Co. for more than 21 years.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, and later reenlisted in the North Carolina National Guard, serving for three years.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Holder officiating. Interment will be Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Brogden Cemetery in Dudley with military honors.

Hugh is survived by his daughters, Ginger Daniels and husband, Billy, Debbie Mitchell, Nancy Potts, Shirley Peek, Mary Horne and Angie Holmes and husband, Michael; grandchildren, Anthony Tilghman and wife, Rhonda, Miranda Potts, Wynter Potts, Brittany Butts and husband, Ryan, Hanna Horne, Brandon and Austin Holmes, Hunter Langston, Julie Rose and Harlan Daniels; great-grandchildren, Jarrod Tilghman and Adalyn Tilghman; his sister, Lynn Gallagher; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Hugh was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Earl Potts Sr., and a grandson, Wayne Earl Potts Jr.

The family will receive friends Tuesday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at his home.
