Janet Flowers Davis, 83, went to be with her Lord Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.
A service to celebrate Janet's life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at St. Joseph United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rose Hicks, the Rev. Bryan Huffman and the Rev. Wayne Hicks officiating. Interment will follow in the Pikeville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
Mrs. Davis was born in Wayne County Feb. 3, 1930, to the late Kyle E. Flowers and Willie Fleming Flowers.
Mrs. Davis attended Pikeville School, and was a lifetime member of St. Joseph United Methodist Church.
Janet and her sister, Betty, were musically gifted, and were involved in the choir from childhood.
This past year, Janet and Betty were honored as having the longest memberships at St. Joseph. Janet taught the Primary Sunday school class for 43 years, and worked with the children for special musical programs.
Janet was named choir director in 1975, and continued to lead the choir until her last cantata, December 2013. She gave 38 years of devoted service.
Janet had a great love for family, music, St. Joseph and the Lord. Mrs. Davis attended both St. Joseph and Yelverton United Methodist Churches faithfully with her husband, Landis. She was a member of the United Methodist Women circles and choirs at both churches.
Janet was a strong, fine Christian Lady. She was kind to all and lead by example -- with a smile.
Mrs. Davis was employed at Cherry Hospital for 23 years. During that time, she continued her education at Wayne Community College.
She was volunteer coordinator for the Senior Companion Program at Cherry Hospital.
Prior to that, Janet was town clerk of Pikeville for 14 years.
Mrs. Davis served her Wayne County Communities in many ways. She directed the "Living Last Supper," a multi-church yearly drama, and led her choir in the Northern Wayne Fifth Sunday Sing, another multi-church event.
Just this past year, Janet directed her choir and New Hope United Methodist Church Choir in a wonderful patriotic cantata.
She was also a longtime member of III Century Singers.
After retirement, Janet volunteered for Meals on Wheels and at Cherry Hospital.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband, Landis H. Davis; her daughter and son-in-love, Linda and Walter T. Cherry; her son and daughter-in-love, Donnie and Connie Price; her daughter-in-law and husband, Wanda and Banks Cozart; her son-in-law and wife, Warren and Dorothy Davis; her son-in-law and wife, Dale and Kriquitte Davis; grandchildren, Jamie and Melissa Price, Ben Price, Kevan and Emily Cozart and Evan and Miranda Davis; and two great-grandchildren, Laney and Layton Price.
She is also survived by her sister, Betty Rackley, and special niece, Carolyn Byers.
In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Gernie Mozingo.
Janet was a wonderful mother, wife, sister and friend -- always loving. She spoiled us all with her generosity and grace (even her pets). We will all dearly miss her.
