DESSIE H. KORNEGAY

Aug. 10, 1918-Nov. 5, 2013

Dessie Hood Kornegay, 95, went peacefully to be with her Lord Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at the Brian Center.

Dessie was born in Wayne County Aug. 10, 1918, to the late Bill and Gertrude Grantham Hood. She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Mosley H. Kornegay.

Dessie was a member of Falling Creek Baptist Church.

Dessie was a caring, loving wife, mother and grandmother whose primary goal was the happiness and security of her family. She leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love and support for the people she cared about. Her enthusiasm and charm will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the fellowship hall at Falling Creek Baptist Church, followed by a funeral service in the sanctuary at 11 a.m., with Dr. Billy Webb officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

At other times, the family will be at the home of Billy and Donna Kornegay, 692 Loop Road, Goldsboro.

Dessie is survived by her sons, Bobby Rex Kornegay and wife, Linda, of Goldsboro, Billy Mosley Kornegay and wife, Donna, of Goldsboro and Jerry Lee Kornegay and wife, Mary Lou, of Mooresville; her grandsons, Stuart Kornegay, Jeffrey Kornegay, Michael Kornegay, Billy Kornegay II, Barry Kornegay and Patrick Kornegay; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She is also survived by her sisters, Gertrude H. Partin of Goldsboro and Maggie H. Hood of Grantham.

With loving gratitude, we would like to thank the loving caregivers, Sarah Andrews and Mary Jo Wiggins, for their incredible guidance, wisdom and support that has sustained us during the past few years.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Billy Hood; twin sister, Jessie H. Littleton; and great-grandchild, Daniel Kornegay.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Flag Fund at Falling Creek Baptist Church, 498 Falling Creek Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
