GREENSBORO -- Florence Carraway Scott, 91, Greensboro, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at Wesley Long Community Hospital.
The family will receive friends Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Forbis and Dick Funeral Home on West Friendly Avenue.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at First Friends Meeting in Greensboro, N.C. Deborah Seuss will be officiating. A private family burial will be held at New Garden Cemetery.
Florence Carraway Scott was born in Wayne County May 4, 1922, to the late John Thomas Carraway and Nettie Hollowell Carraway.
She graduated from Guilford High School in Greensboro, N.C., and continued to receive a diploma from King's Business College in 1941.
In 1940 she married William Frank Scott.
Florence retired from civil service as an employee specialist at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.
She was a member of Goldsboro Friends Meeting until she moved to Friends Home in 2008. She then transferred her membership to First Friends Meeting in Greensboro, N.C.
A birthright Quaker, Florence was active at local, regional and state levels, where she served on varied committees and work groups. She was particularly devoted to United Society of Friends Women (USFW), an international organization whose purpose is to stimulate spiritual growth and support mission work around the world.
For many years, Florence was a committed member of the Wayne County Council on Adolescent Pregnancy and the National Association of Federal Retired Employees (NAFRE).
She was known for her love of her church and family as well as hummingbirds, genealogy and angels.
Surviving are her sons, Michael Leon Scott and his wife, Sally, of Purlear, N.C., and William Hollowell Scott and his wife, Elaine, of North Topsail Beach, N.C.; her daughter, Mariedna Scott Taylor and her husband, Terence Taylor, of Akron, Ohio; a sister, Edna Carraway Luongo of Apopka, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Linda Carraway of Greensboro, N.C.
She has two living great-grandchildren, Brandon and Bradley; five living grandchildren, Kimberly Scott, Sara Scott, Erica Taylor, Phal Sum and his wife, Savanna, and Anna Scott; a number of nieces and nephews; and a deceased grandson, Ian Hollowell Scott.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Scott; two brothers, Joseph and Kenneth Carraway; and her brother-in-law, Michael Luongo.
