Dr. Vamik Bombatepe, 85, passed away Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Dr. Bombatepe was born in Istanbul, Turkey, March 13, 1928, to the late Cafer and Vasfiye Bombatepe.

He practiced family medicine in Goldsboro for more than 28 years, and early in his career had worked with the medical staff for NATO.

He was a member of Golden K Kiwanis Club.

A service celebrating Dr. Bombatepe's life will be held Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at 4 p.m. in Pine Forest United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Vann Spivey officiating.

The family will receive friends Tuesday following the service at the church.

Dr. Bombatepe is survived by his wife, Betty Lovette Bombatepe; sons, Halis Bombatepe and wife, Nurgul, of Goldsboro and John Bombatepe and wife, Christine, of Raeford; granddaughters, Yasemin Bombatepe, Mellody Bombatepe and Brooke Bombatepe; sisters, Sababat Uzun, Guner Delice and Suheyla Ertan all of Turkey; and brother, Halis Bombatepe of Turkey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his memory to Pine Forest United Methodist Church, 867 N.C. 581 South, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, or the Community Soup Kitchen, P.O. Box 1064, Goldsboro, N.C., 27533.
