REBECCA COZART SMITH

Rebecca Cozart Smith (Becky and Beck Beck), 89, passed away on June 8, 2013, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Rebecca was born in Wake County on October 18, 1923, to the late Wiley Simeon and Pauline Holt Cozart. She was married to the late Edward Thompson Smith.
Rebecca was a retired dietitian with Goldsboro City Schools, Wayne Memorial Hospital and the Wayne County Department of Social Services. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and attended Highland Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville.
Rebecca touched many lives through her volunteer work in several different community organizations. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to many.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 10, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Harry officiating. A private interment will be held at Willow Dale Cemetery.
Rebecca is survived by her children, Edward Thompson Smith Jr. and wife, Janet, of Thomasville and Paula Cozart Horne Smith and husband, Joel, of Fayetteville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Patsy Cozart Patrick and husband, Simmons, and Virginia Cozart McLeod and husband, Bernard; brother-in-law, Hugh Barwick; grandchildren, Bryan Anthony Horne and wife, April, Christopher Baldwin Horne and significant other, Julie Hylton, Wingate Thompson Smith and Wiley Livingston Smith; great grandchildren, Addelyn Elizabeth Horne, Brady Thomas Horne and Brady Reed Pfeifer; and step-grandchildren, Kelly Gray Smith and Morgan Alexandra Smith.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by siblings, Wiley Holt Cozart and Rachel Cozart Barwick; brothers-in-law, R. Jackson Smith Jr. and Nelson Gibson; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Cozart and Sarah Smith.
The family will receive friends the Monday following the memorial service at St. Paul United Methodist Church.
