PATRICIA A. NEWMAN

Jan. 21, 1949-June 5, 2013

LAGRANGE -- Patricia Casey Newman, LaGrange, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2013.

Pat was born Jan. 21, 1949, in Goldsboro to the late Kendrick and Peggy Casey. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Mark Christopher Newman.

Pat graduated from New Hope High School in 1967, and attended both Atlantic Christian and Mount Olive colleges.

She taught preschool for 29 years at LaGrange Preschool, which was located at First Missionary Baptist Church.

Pat was a member of LaGrange United Methodist Church for more than 30 years. She loved serving there in many capacities. Her most recent project has been making a hand-stitched quilt to be donated to the church. She had worked so diligently on it each day, making sure each stitch was perfect.

Pat was the most devoted mother imaginable and the most special sister who could ever be wished for.

Granddaughter Kayla had been the light of her life since she was born last August. Pat could hardly wait to see the first steps and to be called "Mimi."

Her entire life revolved around her family, friends and church.

Her brother-in-law, Don, gave us the only explanation for this sudden loss of such a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend -- "God needed an extra angel Wednesday afternoon and Pat was his first choice."

A service of remembrance will be held Saturday, June 8, 2013, at 11 a.m. at LaGrange United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ray Teague officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Pat is survived by her sons, Mark Christopher Newman II of LaGrange and Brian Casey Newman and wife, Melissa, and the joy of Pat's life, granddaughter, Kayla, of Virginia Beach, Va.; her sister, Harriette Casey Albritton and husband, Don S. Albritton, of Suffolk, Va.; along with her special friend and companion, Dale Jackson, and his family, Todd and Gretchen Pelletier.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, and at other times it will be at the home.

Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com.

Pat's family would like to thank all Lenoir County EMT emergency workers for their compassion, concern and assistance.

Memorials may be made to LaGrange United Methodist Church, 213 S. Caswell St., LaGrange, N.C., 28551.

Arrangements are with Rouse Funeral Home of LaGrange.
