MOUNT OLIVE -- Mrs. Echo St. John Hager Painter, 88, Mount Olive, N.C., passed away Wednesday morning, June 5, 2013. Death came while she was in the familiar surroundings of home and in the constant care of her family.

Born in Pennsylvania, she was one of 14 children born to her late parents, Edwin Arthur and Lizzie Myers Hager.

She had been a Floridian for many years, and it was there that she retired as president of Everglades Federal Savings and Loan.

The widow of Bernard Eugene Painter, in ensuing years after her retirement, she relocated to rural Mount Olive, N.C., to be near her sons, who had previously established themselves to the area.

She worshipped at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church at Moss Hill, N.C.

Mrs. Painter is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Scott and Beth Painter and Bruce Painter all of Mount Olive N.C.; six grandchildren, Brandon, Jared and Marlan Painter all of Mount Olive, N.C., Amanda Street of Atlanta, Ga., Alyssa Capps of Goldsboro, N.C., and Alayna Boggs of Mount Olive, N.C.; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty and Roger Blatz of Laceyville, Pa., Elaine Campbell of Pipersville, Pa., and Ruth Hager of Lakeland, Fla.; three brothers and five sisters-in-law, Kenny Hager of Pipersville, Pa., Dean and Peggy Hager of Plumsteadville, Pa., the Rev. Joe and Judy Hager of Sugarloof, Pa., Sandy Hager of Doylestown, Pa., and Amy Hager and Anne Hager of Westfield, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Eugene Painter; a sister; and three brothers.

A service to celebrate and remember the life of Mrs. Painter will be Sunday, June 9, at 4 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, Mount Olive, N.C., and followed by a time of visitation.

Friends and family are also being received at the residence, 982 Bethel Church Road, Mount Olive, N.C.
