Elder Edward Eugene Lewis Sr., known by his family and friends as "Ed," 212 Ervin Drive, Goldsboro, departed this earthly life Friday, Feb. 8, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at noon at Love Temple, 201 N. Oak Forest Road, Goldsboro.

A viewing will be held Friday, Feb. 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Central Heights Free Will Baptist Church, 302 Ervin Drive, Goldsboro, and family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Elder Lewis will be laid to rest at Old Mill Cemetery on Central Heights Road, Goldsboro.

Elder E. E. Lewis was born in Wayne County Aug. 1, 1941, to the late Viola Kornegay Lewis and John Wesley Lewis.

He was reared in Wayne County, and married the former Laura Gardner.

He served actively in the United States Army.

He worked at and retired from O'Berry Center as a technician II.

"Ed" was an insurance agent for United Family Life Insurance Co., and worked at Hamilton Funeral Chapel for more than 30 years.

Elder Lewis, who was "PaPa" to many of his family members, was well known and loved by his family and friends.

He pastored several churches, and was currently pastor of Christ Chapel Free will Baptist Church in LaGrange, where he served actively in the pulpit until he was hospitalized.

He is survived by his spouse, Laura Lewis of the home, three sons, Edward Jr. (Michelle) Lewis, Tracy (Teresa) Lewis and Danny Lewis all of Goldsboro; a daughter, Myra (Alando) Mitchell; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a godson, Dr. W. C. (Revelene) Hutchins.

He is also survived by a brother, Robert (Evelyn) Lewis; a sister, Elizabeth Lewis; five sisters-in-law, Hattie Bell Lewis of Kinston, Elder Sallie Hutchins of LaGrange, elder Lucy Dudley of Goldsboro, Geraldine Grady of Indian Springs and Annie Ruth Ham of LaGrange; three brothers-in-law, bishop Quincy (Lenora) Gardner II of LaGrange, James (Loretta) Gardner of LaGrange and Thomas (Lois) Waters of Goldsboro; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Elder Lewis was preceded in death by four brothers, Wilber "Pete" Lewis, Willie "Mank" Lewis, Johns Wesley II "Knott" and Thomas "Tom" Lewis.

Elder Lewis lived a glorious life, and truly loved praising the Lord to the fullest.
