HIRAM 'DON' WORLEY

Retired Master Sgt. Hiram "Don" Worley, founder of Don's Florist of Goldsboro, passed away Wednesday at home with his loving family around him.

Born in Ellijay, Ga., June 5, 1935, to the late Taft and Mattie Worley, he was a veteran of the Korea and Vietnam wars, and retired from the United States Air Force after 21 years of service in 1977.

In 1979, he started Don's Decor, which was later renamed Don's Florist. After 33 years in the florist business, Don again retired and closed Don's Florist in 2012.

A service to celebrate Don's life will be held Saturday evening at 6 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home chapel, with Mr. Jay Barnett officiating.

Family members will remain to greet friends Saturday immediately following the funeral service.

There will be a private burial with full military honors.

Don is survived by his wife, Patti; a daughter, Beth Elsenbeck and husband, Nate, of Goldsboro; two sons, James Laws and wife, Danielle, of Lucama and Darrell Laws of Goldsboro; two brothers, Roy and Howard Worley both of Ellijay, Ga.; three sisters, Eva Mae McArthur, Mary Ruth Hall and Janie Lou Sanford all of Ellijay, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, Zachary, Karma, Matthew Jr., Kristin, Michael, Sean, Triston, Montana, Madison and Alysia; very special friends, David and Sally Fuller, Christina Cobbler, Kellynne Fuller, Victoria Swinehart, Wayne and Sharon Elsenbeck; and his adopted children, Melody Smiling and husband, Dean, and Steven Chapin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to scholarships at the aviation maintenance course at Wayne Community College.
