Mary Virginia Uzzell, 86, 404 Walnut Creek Drive, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. The Rev. Ted Manby will officiate. Burial will follow in Uzzell Family Cemetery.
Mrs. Uzzell was born in Wayne County to the late Joe P. Parks and Adeline G. Parks.
She was a graduate of New Hope High School in 1943.
Mrs. Uzzell was a homemaker.
She taught basket-weaving, and was a member of New Hope Extension Homemakers and the National Basket-weaving Association.
She devoted a lot of time to the family farm and her two grandsons.
She attended Adamsville Baptist Church.
Mrs. Uzzell is survived by her son, Thomas Parks Uzzell, and grandsons, Tee Uzzell and Dare Uzzell.
She is also survived by sisters, Mabel Lee Osbourne, Josephine Webb, Betty Jean Moore and Pat Fish, and brother, Samuel Parks.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Walter F. Uzzell; daughter, Lou Gurley Uzzell; brothers, Osborn Parks, Clifton Earl Parks and Carlton "Shine" Parks; and sister, Ann Parks.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Adamsville Baptist Church, 1302 N. Berkeley Blvd., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
