CHARLOTTE -- Mrs. Faison died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, in her home at The Cypress of Charlotte.

Jean was born Jan. 23, 1913, in Lenoir, and was the daughter of the late Jean Hayward Wilcox Jones and Edmund Jones.

In 1935, Jean married George Steele Dewey Jr. of Goldsboro, where she lived for 65 years.

She was an active member of her community and a devoted member of her church, St. Stephens Episcopal. It had been her abiding faith that had sustained her for 99 years.

Jean had a keen wit and a contagious zest for life.

She adored her grandchildren to whom she was affectionately known as "Noonie." They, in turn, loved her and her irrepressible personality.

Friends of all ages enjoyed listening to her stories that captivated and entertained them. With her generous gift of loving hospitality, Jean's door was always open and flowers arranged to welcome family and friends who might drop by.

Jean was predeceased by her husband, George S. Dewey Jr. in 1961.

She later wed William King Faison to whom she was married for 21 years. They moved to Charlotte in 1999, where he died.

Jean is survived by her two beloved children, Mollie Dewey Faison and George Steele Dewey III and his wife, Molly Browne Dewey, of Charlotte; grandchildren, Jay Winters Faison and wife, Olga, Lane Elias Faison and wife, Liz, George Steele Dewey IV and wife, Meg, Edward O'Herron Dewey and wife, Kristan, Margaret "Dosty" Dewey Quarrier and husband, Alex; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her stepgrandchildren, Shippen Williams Browne and wife, Bridget, Katie Browne Beam and her husband, John, and Daniel Clarke Finny Browne, and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank her caregivers, Jeanette Smith, Lillie Jordan, Pat Lookabill with Home Care of Charlotte, Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, and her dear friend, Jami Griscom, for their loving care.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Willowdale Cemetery in Goldsboro.
