Roy Wilton Dawson, 88, passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.

Roy was born in Lenoir County July 15, 1924, to the late Amos and Emma Dawson.

He proudly served his country as a seaman first class in the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific.

Roy retired from Caswell Center in Kinston.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at Wayne Memorial Park. The Rev. Ted Manby and the Rev. David Jackson will officiate.

The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery, and other times at 2704 Northwood Drive, Goldsboro.

Roy is survived by his wife, Nancy Sugg Dawson; daughters, Ashley Dawson and Linda Sullivan and husband, Stan; sister, Betty Lewis of Kinston; two grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Pallbearers will be Vern Leonard, Johnny Peterson, Tony Peterson, John Crocker, Bill Grice, Ken Davis, Ray Lewis and Bobby Trivette. Honorary pallbearers will be Clarence Jones, Jessie Holmes, J.P. Gurley, K.R. Hunter, Roy Renfrow and Gene West.

Memorials may be directed to New Hope Ruritan Club Scholarship Fund in care of JoAnn Davis, 207 Plantation Road, Goldsboro, or Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
