GEORGE R. POTTS

MOUNT OLIVE -- George Rudolph Potts Sr., 88, 958 Baker's Chapel Church Road, passed away in the quietness of the early morning of Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Mount Olive Care and Rehabilitation Center.
His working career was that of being an auto parts manager, beginning with Hatcher-Smith Motor Co., and then Aaron Smith Chevrolet, from which he retired.
A lifelong Wayne County resident, he was a member of Northeast Original Free Will Baptist Church, where he had been quite active in years past.
Mr. Potts is survived by his wife of 67 years, Inez Westbrook Potts of the home; a daughter, Donna Potts Ricks of Mount Olive; a son, Rudy Potts and wife, Jeneen, of Mount Olive; four grandchildren, Emily Ricks Lancaster and husband, Warren, of Goldsboro, Jennifer Ricks Merritt and husband, Geoffrey, Blair Tadlock and Bethany Tadlock, all of Mount Olive; four great-grandchildren, Walker and Emma Lancaster and Hunter and Anna Grace Merritt; a sister, Lillian P. Strickland of Mount Olive; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine W. Sutton and Jean W. Holmes, both of Mount Olive; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Norman Ricks; his parents, David and Hepsie Roberts Potts; a brother, David Russell Potts; and two sisters, Margaret P. Culbreth and Lola P. Byrd.
Services to celebrate his life will be held at Tyndall Funeral Home Saturday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Richard Cuddington officiating. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home during the hour prior to the service, and at other times at the residence.
