FREMONT -- Anna Jean Poole Pierce, 85, born Sept. 1, 1927, in Lenoir County, entered her heavenly home on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, while in her home.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. today, Dec. 2, 2012, at Garner Funeral Home, with Bishop Robert Scott officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Poole Family Cemetery.
Anna graduated in 1951 from Atlantic Christian College with an AB Degree in high school science and in 1965 received her Masters Degree from Appalachian State University in guidance and counseling. She retired with over 32 years from Lenoir County Schools. She also taught furniture refinishing at Lenoir Community College for 25 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Henry and Mary Hughes Poole, three sisters, Hazel Grant, Effie Bishop and Beulah McDonald; three brothers, John, Jonas and Reid Poole; three nieces, Mary Anna Bishop, Anna Casper and Annella Baines and a great-grandson, Carter Pierce.
Survivors include her son, David Pierce (Arlene) of Fremont; three grandsons, Reid Pierce (Melanie) and Brian Pierce (Lesley) of Wilson and Eric Pierce of Goldsboro; two granddaughters, Emily Collins (Lee) of Goldsboro and Diana McCullen (Felix) of Faison; 10 great-grandchildren, Savannah, Logan, Sarah, Noah and Anna Pierce, Tristan, Braeden and Simon Collins, Breanna and Baileigh Hinnant; two sisters, Gretchen Ousnamer and Mary Ellen Boyette of Kinston; many nieces and nephews and their families.
