JAMES E. SMITH

March 6, 1923-March 8, 2012

James "Shine" Edward Smith, 89, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.

Shine was born in Wayne County March 6, 1923, to the late John G. Smith and Nora Gurley Smith.

He farmed in the Hood Swamp community for many years, and later began working at Coker Feed Mill with more than 20 years of service.

Shine was a member of Woods Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church. He will be remembered as a man of incredible faith. The Christian example Shine exhibited every day will continue to influence his family and many friends for years to come.

Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Reynolds Smith officiating. Interment will be Sunday, March 11, 2012, at 2 p.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.

James is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dixie Ellis Smith; his daughters, Linda Braxton of Kinston and Brinda Turnage and husband, Elton, of Goldsboro; his son, Keith Smith of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Pam Smith, Allan Harper, Dean Turnage, Kim Braxton, Michael Smith, Brock Smith and Matthew Smith; and 11 great-grandchildren, Dena, Kasey and Ally Turnage, Ben and Charlie Smith, Lindsey and Tyler Harper, Zack and Molly Braxton and Garrett and Emily Smith.

He is also survived by his sisters, Esther Casey of Goldsboro, Nora Ann Edmundson of Goldsboro and Vernell Quinn of Goldsboro.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe William Smith, Rex Smith and Robert Smith, and his sisters, Mabel Coker, Ava Faircloth, Sarah Davis and Laulas Newsome.

The family will receive friends Saturday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Brinda and Elton Turnage, 2337 N. Beston Road, LaGrange.
