Raymond Sherrill "Squirrel" Kornegay, 66, passed away Thursday at his residence.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Kornegay will be held today at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Edward Thornton officiating. Family members will remain following the service to greet friends at the funeral home and at other times will be at the residence, 1350 Stevens Mill Road, Goldsboro. A graveside service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Raymond Kornegay and Dollie Mae Holland Kornegay. He was a retired carpenter with O'Berry Center and a veteran of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed building swings, woodworking, gardening, hunting and fishing.
Mr. Kornegay is survived by his wife, Connie Worley Kornegay; siblings, Linda Kornegay Dickerson of Goldsboro, Jean Davis and husband, Larry, of Ludowici, Ga., David Kornegay and wife, Gail, of Goldsboro, Sylvia Denise Bragg and husband, Benjie, of Goldsboro and Dennis Kornegay and wife, Jan, of Jesup, Ga.; five nephews; one niece; one great-niece; his stepson, Stacy Beasley of Jersey Shore, Pa.; his step-grandchildren, Cody Beasley and Raven Beasley of Goldsboro and Madison Beasley of Jersey Shore, Pa.
