MOUNT OLIVE -- Mrs. Mary Baker Williams, 91, lovingly known by her family and friends as "Nimber," 1116 S. Church St., Mount Olive, gracefully departed her life Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro.
"Nimber" was born in Sampson County Feb. 28, 1920, to the late Nellie Moore Baker and Walter Baker.
She was educated in the Wayne County Public School System.
At an early age, Mary moved to Mount Olive with her family, and soon joined Northeast Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Northeast Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church, E. James St., Mount Olive, with elder Jesse Warren III officiating. Interment will follow in Caver Memorial Cemetery, 728 S. Breazeale Ave., Mount Olive.
A public viewing will be held Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at McIntyre Funeral Home and Florist, 401 S. Center St. in Mount Olive from 2 to 6 p.m.
Also, Jan. 13, 2012, the family will be present to receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. at McIntyre Funeral Home in Mount Olive.
Mary leaves many precious and comical memories for her family to share.
She is survived by great-nieces and nephews, whom she raised, Sadio Sykes, Naeemah Sykes, Shukri H. Sykes, Safiyyah Sykes, William Dennis Canady and Fletcher Canady.
She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Geraldine Baker Hodges and Barbara L. Baker; caregivers, Bobbie Bennett, Betty Bennett and Bebra Bennett Robinson and husband, Lynwood; Reginald, Larry and wife, Teresa, Cedric Baker, Cedric H. Baker and wife, Coris, Earthel Bennett and wife, Irene, and Lonnie Bennett; many great-great-nieces and nephews, including special ones, Kyanna Kornegay, Bennie Stevens, Jamal Sykes; many great-great-great nieces and nephews, including Javeon Stevens; a brother-in-law, James Williams Jr. and wife, Blanche; a sister-in-law, Bernell Baker Worthy; many cousins, other relatives and very special friends too numerous to name.
At other times, the family will receive friends at 1116 S. Church St., Mount Olive, where family and friends will assemble an hour prior to the funeral, in preparation for the funeral procession.
