Sallie Davenport Coor, 79, went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Sallie was born in Wayne County on Nov. 12, 1931, to the late Stephen M. Davenport and Alwilda Caudell Davenport. She was married to the love of her life, Kenneth K. Coor Jr., for 59 years. Sallie was involved in her community as an active member of the Salvation Army Ladies Auxiliary and the Goldsboro Kiwanis Club. In earlier years, she was in the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Sallie was an active member of the Madison Avenue Baptist Church and served in different areas of the church.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Madison Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Fulkerson and Rev. Talmage Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Emily VerSteeg and husband, Buddy and Sylvia Richards and husband, Scott, both of Raleigh; her brother, Donald Davenport and wife, Clara of New Bern; her sister, Ella Mae Alphin of Kinston; her grandchildren, Shasta VerSteeg, Charity VerSteeg, Ryan Richards and Chase Richards; several nieces and nephews, and special caregivers, Emma Kinsey and Barbara Williams.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Marlton Davenport and wife, Gertrude, Willie Davenport and wife, Margaret, and Ronald Davenport.
Memorials may be made to Madison Avenue Baptist Church at 300 S. Madison Ave., Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
