Richard Flanagan Sr. was born Sept. 1, 1952, to the late Jasper Flanagan Sr. and Mattie Coley Flanagan. His earthly life was departed Oct. 5, 2011, at Kitty Askins.
Richard leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife, Mrs. Marie G. Flanagan of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Kelli (Wendell) Lewis of Stafford, Va., and Mrs. Tashawnda (Treal) Lanier of Goldsboro; three sons, Richard Flanagan Jr. of Jacksonville and Demarquis and Eddie Jones both of Goldsboro; six sisters, Mrs. Gloria Best of Philadelphia, Pa., Mrs. Blossie Neal of Baltimore, Md., Evangelist Estelle Flanagan of Goldsboro, Mrs. Josephine Cobb of Mount Olive, eldress Annette (Frank) Whitfield of Goldsboro and minister Annie (Thurman) Morgan of Jacksonville; 14 grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and special friends, Mr. Jimmy Johnson, Mr. Floyd Cherry Jr. and Mr. Charles Atkinson all of Goldsboro.
A visitation will be held Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
All other arrangements are remaining private at the request of the family.
Mr. Flanagan's earthen vessel is peacefully resting at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home, where the Flanagan and connected families are receiving prestigious service.
