Miller Johnson Sr., 78, 205 Herbert St., was born Sept. 15, 1933, to Roscoe and Bertha Johnson of Wayne County. He departed this earthly home Sept. 30, 2011.
Miller worked for, and retired from, Dewey Brothers after 27 years of service as a machine operator.
In his later years after retirement, Miller spent his time farming and fishing, which he enjoyed tremendously.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, Frank, James, John, Eugene, Ray and Lee; and a son, Jerry Ray Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Joanne (Johnny Holmes) of Williamsburg, Va., and Bernadett Brown of Goldsboro; three sons, Miller Johnson Jr. of Charlotte and Danny Johnson and Melvin Brody both of Goldsboro; three brothers, Charles Johnson of Washington, D.C., George (Mary) Johnson of Goldsboro and Roscoe Johnson of Florida; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
A service of remembrance will be held Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Hooks Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 290 Hooks Grove Church Road Northwest, Pikeville. Following the services in the sanctuary, Mr. Johnson's delicate temple, along with his adored family, will be escorted to Elmwood Cemetery in Goldsboro for interment rites.
Mr. Johnson's earthen vessel is peacefully resting at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home, where the Johnson and connected families are receiving prestigious service.
