Samuel Miller Eason, 82, died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, at Westminster Canterbury in Richmond, Va.
Services will be held at Westminster Canterbury on Saturday morning, Sept. 24, 2011, at 11. The Rev. Carla Pratt Keyes will officiate. Mr. Eason's remains will be placed in the mausoleum at Hollywood Cemetery later that day.
Mr. Eason was born June 28, 1929, in Goldsboro, to the late Julius and Kelly Miller Eason. On Oct. 17, 1953, he married his high school sweetheart, Erline Burwell Griffin. Mrs. Eason lives at Westminster Canterbury in Richmond.
Mr. Eason is survived by his children, Katherine Kelly Eason of Cary, Samuel Miller Eason Jr. and his wife, Laurie, of Roxboro, Susan Clausel Eason and her husband, Chris, Haddox of Morgantown, W.Va., and Julia Eason Clay and her husband, David, of Richmond.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Danielle Fisher and her husband, Vince, Laurin, Meridith and Mallori Eason, Kendall and Dillon Clay, Julia Eason, Logan and Amelia Haddox; and great-grandson, Allen Fisher.
Mr. Eason is survived by his brother, J. Dillon Eason and his wife, Mary, of Richmond, as well as many other relatives and friends, including "The Bridge Group."
He was predeceased by a grandson, Griffin Miller Eason.
He graduated from Goldsboro High School and North Carolina State University. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. In his professional life, he was a civil engineer who built 70 bridges in Virginia, while working for Marks Runion Construction Company.
Mr. Eason lived in the Richmond area for 45 years, first in Ginter Park, and later in Midlothian. His recent move to Westminster Canterbury brought him back to the Northside. He was a member of Ginter Park Presbyterian Church and was a founding member of Swift Creek Presbyterian Church in Midlothian.
