LILLIE FRANCES ARMSTRONG SMITH

FREMONT -- Mrs. Lillie Frances Armstrong Smith, 804 Chestnut St., Fremont, was born March 3, 1944, to the late Amos Armstrong Sr. and Lillie Mae Graham Armstrong in Wade, N.C. Frances departed the earthly life to be with the Lord May 12, 2011, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro, N.C.

Frances was educated in Wade, N.C., and Norwayne School, and later continued her education at Wayne Community College, where she received her high school diploma. She was employed more than 30 years with Wayne County Public Schools, where she retired.

Sept. 20, 1962, she married Willie Frank Smith. To that union four children were born.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, a sister and three brothers.

She was a faithful and dedicated member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Fremont, N.C. Frances loved God and loved doing God's work.

She loved people, to cook and feed everyone. She could cook almost anything, and it was always good. She loved her children and grandchildren very, very much.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Willie Frank Smith; a son, Frankie (Miriam) Smith of Fremont, N.C.; three daughters, Felecia Smith Williams of Fremont, N.C., Gloria Smith Williams of Goldsboro, N.C., and Yolonda (Bernard) Smith Newsome of Winterville, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Sharonda Burden, Glanisha Donnell, Tiffany Williams, Ashley Bullock, Devonte Newsome, Travian Smith and Tyler Newsome; three brothers, Amos (Evon) Armstrong Jr. of Washington, D.C., and David Armstrong and Alphonso Armstrong of Raleigh, N.C.; three sisters, Annie Louise (Francis) Ogbodo of Garner, N.C., Mary Lisa (Johnny) Hargrove of Raleigh, N.C., and Shirley (Gary) Moore of Knightdale, N.C.; mother-in-law, Lula Smith of Fremont, N.C.; special niece, Rochelle Reid of Fremont, N.C.; and a host of godchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and many, many special friends.

A service of remembrance will be held Saturday at noon at Bear Creek Headquarters building.

Following the services in the sanctuary, Mrs. Smith's delicate temple, along with her adored family, will be escorted to Fremont Cemetery for interment rites.

The 12th of May, Mrs. Smith has took off her earthly garments and replaced them with her glorious white robe, and now she is sitting at the master's table rejoicing with the heavenly host.

Services of compassion and distinguished class are rendered by E.M. Matthews Funeral Home.
