Bessie Ward Best 91, of 1441 Airport Road, Pikeville, was born Feb. 22, 1920, in Wilson County to the late James and Nina Newsome Ward. On April 5, 2011, God saw fit to select a beautiful flower from his garden and called her home from labor to reward at 10:30 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by loved ones. God in his infinite wisdom was ready to offer her eternal rest
A visitation was held Saturday from 2 until 4 p.m. at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home; the viewing will continue from 5 until 7 p.m. at Barnes Primitive Baptist Church in Eureka. Services celebrating the prolific life and legacy of Ms. Best will be held today at 2 p.m. at St. James Church of Christ in Fremont. Following the services in the sanctuary, Ms. Best's delicate temple, along with her adored family, will be escorted to Turner Swamp Church Cemetery for interment rites. Oh what a time Ms. Best and the angels are having now, in that bright and beautiful city called Heaven, rejoicing and praises to the Master all the day long.
She attended the Wilson County Public Schools. Bessie was a homemaker and her favorite hobby was sewing. She could sew with best and often created her own designs and patterns. Bessie was also known for her quilt making. Bessie attended Barnes Primitive Baptist Church for many years and remained faithful until her health began to decline.
Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Best and a daughter Bessie (Woody) Lewis.
Bessie leaves to cherish her memories a daughter, Nina Best of the home; a granddaughter, Aronual Best of Durham; one brother, Chester Ward of Coatsville, Pa.; six sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; a faithful friend and neighbor, Elder Ed Holmes; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
