MARY POWELL PENDER

Mary Powell Pender, 81, 921B Airport Road, passed away Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Mary was born in Wayne County Aug. 24, 1929, to the late Lee Powell and Ruth Howell Powell.
She had a great love for her children and grandchildren.
Mary was an avid gardener, and loved the outdoors and fishing.
Graveside services will be held Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Pikeville Cemetery, with the Rev. David Hollowell officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service.
Mary is survived by her children, Wiley Pender and wife, Debra, of Pikeville, Norwood Benton Pender Jr. and wife, Jackie, of Pikeville and Danny Pender and wife, Teresa, of Goldsboro; her grandchildren, Norwood Todd Pender and fiancé, Stephanie, of Fremont, Christi Pender Orr and husband, Jason, of Goldsboro, J.W. Pender of Harkers Island, Danielle Pender and Kyle Pender of Goldsboro and Chris Jones and wife, Kelly, of Pikeville; her great-grandchildren, Hayley Pender, Nate Pender, Lucas Orr and Blaine Orr; her brother, Walter "Big Boy" Powell and wife, Roberta, of Lucama; her sisters, Martha Mae Aycock and husband, Oscar, of Lucama, Nancy Pittman and husband, Tom, of Lucama and Eva Aycock and husband, Wayne, of Lucama; numerous nieces and nephews; and special canine companion, "Pebbles."
In addition to her parents and husband, Benton Pender, she was preceded in death by her sister, Fannie Lee Wall, and her brother, William Daniel Powell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center at 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
