PICAYUNE, Miss. -- Alton B. "Al" Crumpler, 77, Picayune, Miss., passed away Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, at Regency Hospital in Hattiesburg, Miss.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will follow in Crumpler Family Cemetery.
At other times, the family will be at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Ray Hicks, 563 Airport Road, Pikeville.
Mr. Crumpler was born Nov. 2, 1933, in Wayne County, N.C.
He graduated from North Carolina State University with a bachelor's degree in geological engineering, and obtained his master's degree in geological engineering from Florida State University.
He spent his 40-year career in Suitland, Md., and Bay St. Louis, Miss., working for NAVOCEANO as an oceanographer research engineer and manager.
He was a wonderful father, loving husband and brother.
Mr. Crumpler was a Christian, and was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Elnora Mitchell Crumpler, and by his wife, Vivian McKeithan Crumpler.
He is survived by his sons, Bill Crumpler of Picayune, Miss., and Braxton Crumpler (Lisa) of Madison, Miss., and grandsons, Corey, Caleb, Reece and Hayes Crumpler. He is also survived by sisters, Dorothy Blanchard of Randleman, N.C., and Rose Hicks of Pikeville, N.C.
