JOSEPH VANVOLTENBURG

MOUNT OLIVE -- Joseph VanVoltenburg, 73, Indian Springs community, died Saturday, Dec. 11.

A member of Emmaus Baptist Church, he was retired from AP Parts, was a former Boy Scouts troop leader and had served in the United States Marines.

Funeral services will be held by the graveside Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m. in Pate Cemetery, with the Rev. Johnny Sasser and the Rev. Jim Willoughby officiating.

Visitation will be at Tyndall Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. today, and at the residence at other times.

Mr. VanVoltenburg and his wife, Peggy Brock VanVoltenburg, would have celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary Wednesday, Dec. 15.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Dr. Amy V. Harper and Overton Harper of Kernersville and Melissa V. Boyd and Dr. Justin Boyd of Winterville; a son, Joseph VanVoltenburg Jr. of the home; a granddaughter adored by her "PaPa," Hayden Marie Harper of Kernersville; three brothers, James VanVoltenburg of Garland, Texas, Robert VanVoltenburg of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Jerry Yanda of Tennessee; a sister, Elizabeth Turner of LaGrange; and a brother-in-law, Perry "Punk" Brock Jr. and wife, Ellen, of Raeford.
