BILLY FARRELL DAWSON

Billy Farrell Dawson Sr., 74, passed away Tuesday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.
Farrell was born in Wayne County Sept. 18, 1935, to the late Joseph Benjamin Dawson and Beatrice Head Dawson.
Farrell was a member of Goldsboro Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, a self-employed businessman and a car salesman for C.L. Snipes Ford and Scott Motor Co.
He retired as sergeant with the North Carolina Department of Corrections as a prison guard, and later worked for the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquent Prevention.
Farrell served in the North Carolina National Guard for eight years.
He was an avid sports fan and was a champion wrestler. Farrell won the golden glove in boxing and the Mansour Award in baseball at Goldsboro High School.
Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Willard Hardison officiating. Interment will be held Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Farrell is survived by his wife, Sandra Hamm Dawson; his sons, Billy F. Dawson Jr. of Snow Hill, Walton Bradley Dawson of Goldsboro and Joseph Brian Dawson and wife, Frankie, of Goldsboro; his brothers, Shelton H. Dawson and Linwood Dawson of Goldsboro; a beloved sister, Eleanor Pope of Goldsboro; three precious grandsons, Steven, Peyton and Taylor Dawson; one little angel granddaughter, Hannah Elizabeth Dawson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to offer its sincere thanks and appreciation for the love and care given to Farrell by the nurses and staff on the Seventh floor at Wayne Memorial Hospital and the staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
