WILLIAM G. COX

William G. Cox, 88, passed away on Saturday at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.
A service to celebrate Bill's life will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Falling Creek United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Clark and the Rev. Jean Hood officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Bill was born in Wayne County to the late Elam J. Cox and Lela Hinnant Cox. As a farmer in the Grantham community, Bill was a man that enjoyed the simple pleasure of working God's land and helping his fellow man. Bill had also worked as a rural route mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for more than 20 years. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II.
Bill is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mabel Jernigan Cox; his son, Jimmy Cox and wife, Judy, of Goldsboro; his granddaughters, Jennifer Rall and husband, Todd, of Garner and Julie Bruce and husband, Steven, of Raleigh; his great-grandchildren, James Rall and Taylor Bruce; and his sisters, Elizabeth Cox Hood of Goldsboro and Grace Cox Lane of Mount Olive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Nannie Cox Hollowell and Fannie Cox; his brothers, Victor Cox, Henry Cox and Toby Cox; his grandson, Matthew Cox and his great-granddaughter, Marley Bruce.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Falling Creek United Methodist Church Building Fund, 299 Falling Creek Church Road, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
The family will receive friends today from 4 until 6 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of his son, 3269 Old Grantham Road, Goldsboro.
