LANDRUM, S.C. -- Anne Eleanor Tyndall Duncan died Friday at Smith Phayer Hospice following a stroke.

A memorial service will be held at Sardis Baptist Church in Charlotte March 31 at 1 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Willowdale Cemetery in Goldsboro April 1 at 11 a.m.

Anne was born in Goldsboro March 14, 1915, daughter of Sallie Leggett Tyndall and Jesse Ivey Tyndall.

She lived in Goldsboro and Raleigh and moved to Charlotte in 1959, where she was active in book clubs, bridge clubs, Lunch Bunch and Sardis Baptist Church.

She is survived by two loving children, Carol Swetman of Tryon and her husband, Shannon Swetman, and Charles Duncan, of New Haven, Conn., and his wife, Laura Ment; seven grandchildren, Juliana Swetman of Charlotte, Joseph Swetman of Greensboro, Andrew Duncan of Portland, Ore., and his wife, Alison, Brian Duncan of Greenville, Charles Duncan III, of Raleigh and his wife, Ana, and Daniel "Pete" Duncan and Anna Duncan of New Haven, Conn.; great grandchildren, Kameron, Eliot and Reid; her nephew, George Culbreth of Harrisburg; and her niece, Elizabeth Edgerton, of Wilmington, who were also very close.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cecil Duncan; her parents; and siblings, George, Fred, Ed and Elizabeth.

She loved her friends and touched many lives. As her long time friend, Anne Franks, said, she always had a kind word to say about everyone.

The family is grateful to her doctors, nurses, Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte and Smith Phayer Hospice in Landrum, S.C., for their exceptional care and kindness to Anne and the family.
