FREMONT -- Major S. Ivey Jr., 81, went to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.

Homegoing services will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. from the chapel of Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont. A graveside service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont.

Mr. Ivey was born in Wayne County Nov. 7, 1928, to the late Major and Anna Boyette Ivey.

He was a member of Mount Nelson Baptist Church in Eureka.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lynda "Carol" Howell Ivey of Fremont; five sons, Scott Ivey of Fremont and friend, Pat, Stevie Ivey and wife, Melanie, of Goldsboro, Jeffrey Ivey and wife, Beth, of Williamston, John Crawford and wife, Stephanie, of Pikeville and William Crawford and wife, Susan, of Selma; three daughters, Lisa Moore and husband, Luke, of Tennessee, Kimberly Sugg and husband, Jeff, of Snow Hill and Amy Coley and husband, James, of Wilmington; 21 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Ivey was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Egbert Ivey, and a sister, Mary Broughton.

The family will receive friends following the funeral service and other times at the residence.
