Willard Howard Johnson, 82, went to be with his Lord and savior Jesus Christ Monday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.

Funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dwight Dunning and the Rev. Billy Sutton officiating. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park with military honors.

Mr. Johnson was born in Wayne County May 5, 1927, to the late Charlie C. Johnson and Jennie Davis Johnson. He was married to the late Retha Jordan Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was the produce manager at Big Star Grocery Store for many years.

He was a member of Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he faithfully served as a royal ranger commander.

Mr. Johnson served in the United States Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Beatty.

He is survived by his daughters, Jerrie Best and husband, Donny, of Greenville, Kaye McLawhon and husband, Billy of Goldsboro, Susan Pearsall and husband, Leonard, of Mount Olive and Charlene Thomas and husband, James, of Goldsboro; his son, Howard Johnson Jr. and wife, Lee, of Goldsboro; his sister, Jennie Frances Taylor of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Jeffrey Best, Ashley Howell, Billy McLawhon Jr., Melanie Bryson, Wesley Pearsall, Brad Pearsall, Jae Thomas, Karrie Johnson and Trey Johnson; his great-grandchildren, Mallory Best, Haven Best, Hunter Bryson, Summer Howell, Taylor Howell, Carson Johnson Howell and Braylee Grace McLawhon; and a special nephew, Terry C. Vanderburg.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Russell Johnson, and his sister, Geraldine Johnson.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of his son, 116 Doris Drive in Goldsboro.
