Doris Dawson Burgess, 84, died Sunday at her home.
A graveside service of remembrance will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, with the Rev. Jerry Mitchell officiating.
Mrs. Burgess was born Nov. 24, 1924, in Lenoir County to the late John Herman Dawson and Bessie Allen Rouse Dawson. She was wife of the late Desmond Burgess.
She was a member of First Christian Church in Elizabeth City.
Mrs. Burgess enjoyed clipping items out of the newspaper and was a huge Elvis Presley fan.
Mrs. Burgess is survived by a daughter, Teresa Overman of Goldsboro; four grandchildren, Melanie Barnes of Asheville, Melissa Wilbur and husband, Rick, of Minnesota, Leigh Overman and wife, Tasha, of Goldsboro and Jessica Deane Overman of Goldsboro; three great-grandchildren, Desmond Overman, Dakota Spence and Megan Wilbur; and close friend, Crystal Spence.
She was preceded in death by two children, Terry Dean Burgess and Joseph Herman Barnes.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home.
