RACHEL M. COX

Rachel McCullen Cox, 90, passed away on Saturday, April 18, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Funeral services will be held today at 6 p.m. at Falling Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Dr. Billy Webb and Patrick Muston officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the church cemetery.

Rachel was born in Wayne County on Oct. 27, 1918, to the late Henry McCullen and Lena Sasser McCullen. She was married to the late Charlie A. Cox. Rachel was a retired cafeteria worker with Wayne County Public Schools, spending over 16 years at Southern Wayne High School. She graduated from Grantham High School and had attended Louisburg College for one week when she became homesick and came home. Rachel was a longtime member of Falling Creek Baptist Church and was a member of Woodmen of the World.

Rachel is survived by her sons, Eugene Cox and wife, Faye, and James Ray Cox and wife, Karen, all of Grantham; her daughter, Brenda Gurley and husband, Wayne, of Grantham; her grandchildren, Randy Cox, Russ Cox and wife, Christy, Jonathan Gurley, Crystal Gurley and Ashton Cox; and her great-grandchildren, Charley Cox and Hinton Cox. She is also survived by her sister, Lucy Lee Odom of Bentonville; and her sisters-in-law, Sarah Connor of Raleigh, Ruby Blackmon of Goldsboro and Gladys McCullen of Goldsboro.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Falling Creek Baptist Church, 499 Falling Creek Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.

The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service and other times at her home, 546 Falling Creech Church Road, Goldsboro.
