JEAN D. PEELE

Jean Dudley Peele, of Nahunta, died Sunday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center after an extended illness.
Services will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home in Goldsboro, with visitation immediately following the service. The service will be conducted by Steve Lawrence and Ken Spivey. Committal will be held at Nahunta Cemetery Wednesday at 11 a.m.
Mrs. Peele, daughter of the late Kirby M. Dudley and Sudie E. Dudley, was born July 29, 1930, in Wayne County. After graduation from Brogden High School, she met her future husband, the late Oland F. Peele. They were happily married for 50 years, living and working on the farm which has been in the Peele family for several generations.
Mrs. Peele was a retired homemaker, and an active participant in the Peele's row crop and purebred swine operation. In addition, she was very involved in her family's retail pork business, Nahunta Farm Sausage.
She was a published author. She received the outstanding woman in agriculture award in Wayne County. The Peele family was honored as a master farm family, for the state of North Carolina, in 1964. She enjoyed her vegetable garden, and won many ribbons for her canned goods at the Wayne County Fair, including best of show on two occasions. Her recipes were featured in the Goldsboro News Argus, in various farm publications, and in many local cookbooks. But the greatest satisfaction Jean received came from being able to share from the bounty of her garden and kitchen with her beloved family and friends.
Jean was a member of Nahunta Friends Meeting for 60 years. She taught the Willing Workers Sunday school class for 30 years, and was a member of the church missionary circle for 55 years. Mrs. Peele was a community volunteer 4-H Club leader for 30 years. The Nahunta Pioneers 4-H Club met for many years in the Peele home. She was a member of the Nahunta Extension Homemakers Club for 55 years, and a member of the Nahunta Grange for 60 years. Mrs. Peele will long be remembered for gathering and helping serve food and ministering to Nahunta residents, when there were deaths in the community.
Mrs. Peele is survived by sons, Anthony Peele and wife, Beth, of Nahunta and Gregory Peele and wife, Nancy, of Nahunta; her granddaughter, Tara Peele and husband, Kevin, of Chicago, Ill.; her grandson, Brad Peele of Nahunta; her brother, Jim Dudley and wife, Lib, of Goldsboro; and her sister-in-law, Edith Dudley of Goldsboro.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Dudley; her brother-in-law, Aaron Peele and wife, Winnie; and a sister-in-law, Ora Belle Sasser and husband, Reuben.
