HAZEL C. MARTIN
April 22, 1927-March 13, 2009
Hazel C. Martin, 81, passed away suddenly on Friday, March 13, 2009, at Wilson Medical Center.
The family will receive friends Monday from 1 until 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service in the chapel at 2 p.m. with the Rev. David Hollowell and the Rev. Dann Patrick officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive.
Hazel was born in Wayne County on April 22, 1927, to the late Andrew and Tempie Thornton. She was married to the late Jesse Daniel Martin. Hazel had worked for many years as a seamstress with Best and Sauls Men's Shop in Goldsboro. She attended Mount Carmel United Methodist Church.
Hazel is survived by her daughter, Marie M. Coker and husband, Daryl, of Goldsboro; her sons, Harold Martin and wife, Stormy, of Naples, Fla., and Doug Martin and son, Josh, of Goldsboro; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Hubert Thornton of Fuquay-Varina, Wilma Vaughn of Faison, Daisy Ousler of Fuquay Varina, Sybil Jones of Selma, Kenneth Thornton of Florida, Billy Carter of Mount Olive and Jimmy Carter of Benson; and her best friend, Ruby Hicks.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Donald Gene Martin; her daughter, Ann Martin Stevens; and her siblings, Leon Thornton and Mildred Lollis.
