SNOW HILL -- Mrs. Elizabeth "Lib" Oakes Harrison, 89, passed away Wednesday evening at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Hull Road Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon Grubbs officiating. Interment will follow at Snow Hill Cemetery.

A native of Greene County, she was born Oct. 5, 1919, the daughter of Arthur and Effie Stocks Oakes. She graduated in 1936 as the valedictorian of her class at Hookerton High School. Upon marrying her late husband, Jarvis Ober Harrison Sr., she moved to the home where she resided outside of Snow Hill for the remainder of her life.

An avid homemaker, she was a very talented seamstress and baker. For more than 30 years, Mrs. Harrison worked with Greene County Board of Elections at various precincts during all elections, only having missed the most recent in November of 2008. She was a member of Hull Road Free Will Baptist Church, where she served as the Sunday School secretary and was always a willing hand for church plays and special events.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mattie Askew, Inez Gurganus and Betsy Laughinghouse; and brothers Arthur Oakes Jr., Carroll Oakes, Raymond "Tedock" Oakes, Bill Oakes, Bennie Earl Oakes and James Oakes.

Her surviving family includes her children, Cora Harrison Kearney and husband, Jimmy, and Jarvis Harrison and wife, Ruth, all of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Amy Kearney, April Harrison Fields and husband, John, and Amanda Harrison Harper and husband, Steve, all of Snow Hill; great-grandchildren, Jared Harrison Fields and Lauryn Kaylee Fields; sisters, Belle Boyles of Kinston and Mildred West of Greenville; a brother, Jesse Oakes of Snow Hill; many special nieces and nephews; and a nephew that she considered as her own, Jesse Oakes Jr. of Snow Hill; and a special "grand-dog," Sally.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service and other times at the residence, 180 Warrentown Road, Snow Hill.

Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made to Hull Road Free Will Baptist Church, 3984 Hull Road, Snow Hill, N.C., 28580.

Arrangements are being handled by Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service.
