CLEVELAND I. OUTLAW

KENANSVILLE -- Cleveland Irvin Outlaw, 84, died Wednesday after a short illness.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at West Duplin Free Will Baptist Church in Warsaw. A visitation will be held at Community Funeral Home in Warsaw tonight from 6 to 8.

He was born Nov. 27, 1924, to Cleveland and Dora Blizzard Outlaw. Irvin was a native of the Duplin County area his entire life. In 1959, he married his wife for life, Josephine Reynolds Hatch of Mount Olive. Much of his early life was spent in the rural Summerlin's Crossroads area where he made his living farming. In 1963, he began his career with the Duplin County Sheriff's Department as a deputy and chief jailer where he retired after nearly 30 years. In his later years, he enjoyed retirement by buying and selling antiques and spending time with his family including his grandchildren.

He was a memeber of West Duplin Free Will Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time socializing with neighbors and friends in the community.

Mr. Outlaw was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Hatch Outlaw; his brothers, Marabel Outlaw, Jesse Outlaw and Clifton Outlaw; his sisters, Gladys Whitfield, Thelma Banks, Adelle Outlaw, Rosa Lee Hudson and Callie Grady.

He is survived by his children, son and daughter-in-law, Mike Outlaw and wife, Debbie, of Apex; his daughter and son-in-law, Pam Outlaw Padgett and husband, Wayne, of Hampstead; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Outlaw and wife, Tammy, of San Diego, Calif.; five grandchildren, Corey Behnke of New York, Sonia Rodgers and husband, Lee, of Apex, Alex Padgett of Hampstead, Ben Outlaw and Jackson Outlaw, both of San Diego, Calif.; a great-grandson, Tyler William Rodgers of Apex; brother, Cecil Outlaw of Kinston; and a sister, Dora Mae Outlaw of Newport News, Va.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West Duplin Free Will Baptist Church, 987 N.C. 24/50, Warsaw, N.C. 28398 or The American Cancer Society, c/o Emily's Encouragers Relay of Life, 108 S. Belvedere Drive, Hampstead, N.C., 28443.

Arrangements are being handled by Community Funeral Home of Warsaw.
