SEVEN SPRINGS -- Frederick Thomas "Tom" Holloway, 96, passed away Friday evening at his home.

Tom was born in Haddonfield, N.J., Aug. 10, 1912, to the late Rowland W. Holloway and Anna Oakley Holloway.

Tom loved sports and had played football and baseball in high school. In his later years, he played on the Atlantic City Ice Hockey Team.

Tom was a volunteer fireman in Haddonfield, N.J., for 26 years and was past assistant chief and was an exempt fireman until his death.

He belonged to the Masonic Lodge No. 140 A.F. & A.M. in Haddonfield and when he moved to North Carolina, he joined Wayne Masonic Lodge No. 112 A.F. & A.M., and had just recently received his 60-year pin. Because of ill health, he was not able to attend many meetings.

Tom was a member of Walker Memorial United Methodist Church for 26 years, which he loved greatly. He had lived in the same town for 70 years until he moved to North Carolina in 1983. Tom enjoyed watching sports, camping, hunting and working outdoors. His favorite pastime was reading.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Walker Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Sherman Guthrie and the Rev. T.C. West officiating.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Betty Jane P. Holloway; his son, Roland Holloway and wife, Claire, of Delaware; his daughter, Margurite Duncan and husband, Walter, of Montana; his stepson, Franklin Holtz of North Carolina; his grandchildren, Marc Holloway and wife, Lisa, Daniel Holloway and wife, Katie, Gary Holloway and wife, Terry, Angela Handford and husband, Duane, Sharon Guida and husband, Tony, Janice Parks and husband, John, Peggy Duncan, Christine Watters and Bonnie Lynn Holtz; and his great-grandchildren, Brian Parks, Jason Parks, Allison Zagiel, Shonna Duncan, Cory Handford, Cody Handford, Danielle Handford, Alex Holloway, Jake Holloway, Tommy Holloway and Forrest Holloway. He is also survived by special grandchildren, Steven Smith and wife, Faye.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Albert Palmer Holloway, and his sisters, Ethel Wilkinson, Edith Kershner and Anna Hickey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Building Fund of Walker United Methodist Church, 2290 N.C. 111 South, Goldsboro, 27534.

The family will receive friends Saturday following the service at Walker Memorial United Methodist Church and other times at his home, 384 Price Road, Seven Springs.
