PIKEVILLE -- Edith Evans Raper, age 64, 1288 Vail Road, passed away Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.

Mrs. Raper was born in Wayne County to Hubert Evans of Wilson and the late Alice Pope Evans. She was a member of Fremont Free Will Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir while her health permitted.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband of 44 years, Kenneth Raper; one son, Lee Raper and his wife, Pat, of Pikeville; two daughters, Elizabeth Fleming and husband, Walter, and Beverly Rider and husband, Rodney, all of Pikeville; one brother, Kenneth Evans and wife, Gail, of Goldsboro; five grandchildren, Stacey Turner and wife, Jennifer, Landon Fleming, Kesley Fleming, Matthew Kearney and Macie Kearney; and two great-grandchildren, Brent Turner and Christopher Salyers.

Funeral services will be held tonight (Wednesday) at 7 p.m. from the chapel of Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont with visitation afterward. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Pikeville Cemetery.
