MOUNT OLIVE -- Eric McCoy Hudson, 21-year-old son of Joseph M. "Joe" and Rose Holmes Hudson of the Summerlin's Crossroads community, passed away early Sunday morning in a motor vehicle accident.

Funeral services for Eric will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home officiated by the Rev. Clayton Sutton. Interment will be in Summerlin Cemetery at Summerlin's Crossroads. Visitation will be held this evening from 6 to 9 at the funeral home and at other times at the residence, 2476 Summerlin's Crossroads Road, Mount Olive.

He attended the North Duplin Schools where he was a member of the "Rebel" football team and graduated with the 2005 class of North Duplin Jr./Sr. High School. He graduated in 2007 from the Agricultural Institute at N.C. State University.

Eric was involved with his family's turkey and swine operations, and employed with his parents at H and H Farms and also with his uncle. He was a quiet soul who loved the outdoors and fishing, and who also enjoyed the television, particularly good movies. He held a special bond with his yellow Labrador, "Bud."

Surviving Eric, in addition to his parents, are a sister, Heather Rose Hudson of the home; his maternal grandmother, Clara Belle Holmes of Mount Olive; his paternal grandfather, Reginald Hudson of Evington, Va.; aunts and uncles, Mary Allen Hudson of Goldsboro, Joe Holmes, Russell Holmes, Ricky Holmes, Steve Holmes, Linda H. Gruebel, and Cathy H. Graham, and their families, all of Mount Olive, Jack Holmes and family of Dudley, and Mike Holmes and family of Calypso; special great-aunts and uncles, Eva Nan, David, and Henry Summerlin, all of Mount Olive, Gaynelle Summerlin of Jacksonville, and Ernesteen Summerlin of Kenansville; a special friend, April Tillman of Calypso; along with many cousins and a multitude of dear friends.

Those preceding him in death include his maternal grandfather, James "Sonny" Holmes; paternal grandmother, Mary Lou Summerlin Hudson; and great-uncles, Jimmy and Billy Summerlin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to be made to the Eric Hudson Agricultural Scholarship Fund, c/o North Duplin High School, 1388 N.C. 403 West, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.

Arrangements are being handled by Tyndall Funeral Home.
