KENANSVILLE -- Violette Kornegay Phillips, 87, of Kenansville, passed away today, Feb. 7, 2009, at Duplin General Hospital.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at Johnson Baptist Church, Warsaw. Entombment will follow the service at Devotional Gardens. VIsitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at Community Funeral Home in Warsaw.

Mrs. Phillips was born in Duplin County on Oct. 15, 1921, to the late Edgar and Gladys Herring Kornegay. Mrs. Phillips was the widow of the late Hubert E. Phillips. Mrs. Phillips worked assisting her husband and son in their law office all of her working life.

Mrs. Phillips is survived by three sons, John Everette Phillips and wife, Debra, of Winston-Salem, and David T. Phillips and wife, Janet, and Paul K. Phillips and wife, Jane, all of Kenansville; brother, Donnell E. Kornegay and wife, Edith, of Mount Olive; one sister, Nelda Smith of Mount Olive; and grandchildren, Blair Phillips and husband, Scott, of California, Bake Russell and husband, John, of California, Kyle Kornegay Phillips and Cole Beasley Phillips of Kenansville, M. Shane Crenshaw and wife, Lorie, of Connecticut, Kellie P. Isaac and husband, Joe, of Colorado, and Lauren West of Winston-Salem.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Phillips was also preceded in death by sister, Lena Smith.
