RUTH ELIZABETH SPENCE

Ruth Elizabeth "Granny" Deans Spence, 87, went to be with her Lord on Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at First Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Jimmy Whitfield, the Rev. Bill Rose and Tim Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Ruth was born in Johnston County on Sept. 24, 1921, to the late George Deans and Mary Thomas Deans. She was married to the late Wilbert Spence. Ruth had worked as a nurse's aide at Rose Vista Nursing Home and had formerly worked with Powell's Dime Store in Goldsboro. She was a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Shirley Prosser of Goldsboro; her son, Will Spence and wife, Lynn, of Ponte Vedra, Fla.; her grandchildren, Sonja DeBois, Robert Blackman, Jeff Spence and Teddie Stang; six great-grandchildren; and her sister, Mildred Allen of Clayton.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Joyce Moore; hers sons, Mike Spence and G.B. Spence; and her sisters, Sadie Starling, Mable Blinson and Kathlean Cook.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of Shirley Prosser, 103 E. Lockhaven Drive, Apt. D, Goldsboro.
