BETTYE J. DEAKLE

Mrs. Bettye Jean Deakle went home to be with her Lord on Thursday after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.

The family will receive friends at Jefferson United Methodist Church on Saturday at 1 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

She was born in Amarillo, Texas, Feb. 16, 1933, and was the daughter of Carl and Imogene Burgess. She was preceded in death by her son Steve in 1974, and by her husband, Carl, in 1996.

She is survived by her sons, David Deakle of Goldsboro, Terry Deakle and his wife, Mary, of Lewisville, Jerry Deakle and his wife, Beth, of Raleigh; five grandchildre;n and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Deakle was retired from state government where she served with the Wayne County Department of Social Services for many years. She was a dedicated wife and mother and was blessed by many good friends in the Goldsboro community as well as her church family at Jefferson United Methodist Church.

Her family would like to like to express its gratitude to the wonderful friends who shared life with Mom and who loved her and supported her especially in her last days. The family would also like to thank the care givers at The Pines, Britthaven, and Kitty Askins Hospice Center for their tender attention.

In lieu of flowers, it has been requested that memorial contributions be made to Jefferson United Methodist Church or Kitty Askins Hospice Center of Goldsboro.
