Died Jan. 24, 2009

David Lee Yelverton, 80, resident of Britthaven Nursing Home of Snow Hill, passed away Saturday.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Invitation African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, 1356 Griffin Road, Snow Hill, with the Rev. Theodore Wollridge officiating. Interment will follow in Snow Hill Cemetery.

David was a faithful member of Invitation Church where he served in various capacities.

He was preceded in death by one son, Walter Yelverton, and one sister, Lillian Y. Bryant.

Left to cherish precious memories of David are his wife, Geraldine Edwards Yelverton of Snow Hill; one daughter, Gloria Yelverton of Snow Hill; four sons, Thurman Yelverton (Bonnie) of Wake Forest, Roger Lee Yelverton (Deborah) of Wilson, David M. Yelverton (Diane) of Owings Mills, Md., and Kenneth Yelverton of Snow Hill; six sisters, Annie Y. Hicks of Goldsboro, Geraldine Y. King, Beatrice Y. Gaddie, and Rosa Wilson, all of Wilson, Elizabeth Marie Newton of Temple Hills, Md., and Wanda Daniels of Rocky Mount; four brothers, Ralphel Yelverton (Ada) of Philadelphia, Pa., Clarence Yelverton (Pearlie), and Gene Autry Yelverton, both of Durham, and James "Punie" Durham (Khein) of Goldsboro; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

A viewing will be held Friday from 2 to 7 p.m. at Carrons Funeral Home, 325 E. Nash St., Wilson, and Saturday from noon to 12:45 p.m. at Invitation Church. The family will receive friends at all times at 3319 Fort Run Road, Snow Hill, and will assemble there one hour prior to the service in preparation for the funeral procession.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Inviation Church in loving memory of David L. Yelverton. Donations may be mailed to 5104 Elf Court, Wake Forest, N.C., 27587.
